00:27:47: Now, buy things that's very pricey.

00:27:49: All my side bitches Aries and Pisces treat me very nicely Ain't no tellin' where I might be.

00:27:59: I seen niggas get buried nightly.

00:28:01: They're very shiesty.

00:28:03: Its really likely.

00:28:04: they fairly fight me.

00:28:05: I fuck that shit to get the room hot.

00:28:07: My room drop

00:28:08: pumps like a boom box Lowering my suit spots.

00:28:12: I

00:28:13: don't give a fuck.

00:28:14: whoop-a-buck Who dollars on me?

00:28:17: I'm like whoop hop pop.

00:28:18: I remember popping my taping Whenever crew drop over yellow tops, see that blue top.

00:28:24: Six thousand cash in the shoebox.

00:28:28: Tiger up pocket, park at the cool

00:28:30: pipe Two socks stashing my nicks, damns and my dubs.

00:28:33: I played.

00:28:33: the rooftop On top of my projects climbed out to slums.

00:28:36: My balloon popped these hoses.

00:28:38: not

00:28:38: Im'n not gon budge.

00:28:39: im thinkin drew mine On Friday but my bro keep

00:28:42: talkin plugs.

00:28:43: This shit i got is

00:28:49: pure Q. It's the

00:29:01: mixed-apathic radio show, I'm your host King Flow and today my special guest is none other than one of the illest female MCs in the game Indigo Phoenix.

00:29:12: How you doing?

00:29:13: I'm great, I

00:29:14: am grating yourself.

00:29:16: I'm doing great thank you.

00:29:17: Thank You it's cool to have you here and now that i've been spinning the tracks.

00:29:21: on a show It is always some heat Always delivering some dope bars.

00:29:26: The beats are our own points so its good To Have you

00:29:28: On There.

00:29:28: Thankyou i

00:29:31: can see it too.

00:29:31: Hey hey you're welcome.

00:29:33: And Now let me start with First mixtape Attic question.

00:29:36: in this tradition In A Show i have to ask Who Is your all time favorite DJ?

00:29:41: Oh, that's my favorite DJ.

00:29:44: Ooh!

00:29:45: You're putting on the spot!

00:29:49: I'll have to say DJ Premier.

00:29:51: Okay?

00:29:52: Why especially DJ Premier?

00:29:54: DJ Premier Classic...I mean from when i was young it was like him and Guru Gangstar always just gravitated towards that.

00:30:03: And..i was just thinking about this earlier somebody who has a lot of GFB Stands the course of time still elevates to sound over-the-year.

00:30:15: So Definitely and then I met him in person one time, he was really Nice and humble And I think those are the big things that like somebody who's talented but somebody who is also relatable and you know personable

00:30:34: To people who admire them.

00:30:35: yep That's one thing that a lot of people are missing.

00:30:37: They can be good musician, good rappers but they forget sometimes you have to be nice person for others.

00:30:47: What is your favorite track from DJ?

00:30:50: Do You Have A Favorite Song?

00:30:51: I don't think i have a favorite.

00:30:52: It will always be something from Guru.

00:31:00: Maybe just get a rap or something like that For me, I just have some dope stuff.

00:31:09: Then for the most part what i like about him is that he's still in touch with keeping a classic sound but having fresh sounds to his artistry.

00:31:27: So that's what I like.

00:31:29: If, if i had to delve...I will always stick with the classics for him and he is going be something gangster or something with guru on it because I felt like That collab was just like Kismet.

00:31:41: It was such a great industry.

00:31:43: so all of that

00:31:44: catalog Yup yup yup!

00:31:47: Its one thing thats amazing.

00:31:48: you know the chemistry those two have.

00:31:51: rest in peace to Guru.

00:31:53: but you know it created so many other groups, influenced a lot of MCs to go in the duo with another DJ and sometimes create some magic.

00:32:03: And see what's happening right now?

00:32:05: In twenty-twenty five or twenty six we've seen alot people doing this like rappers you know, teaming up with DJs or producers doing projects.

00:32:14: just two people.

00:32:16: Because like ten of fifteen years before You had a gang of producers on the album

00:32:20: Like

00:32:21: different producer for Ease Track.

00:32:23: And nowadays we're coming back to this Just too hard.

00:32:27: it's working together.

00:32:28: and that what your doin' I've been seeing.

00:32:30: yo project.

00:32:30: Yeah!

00:32:32: I like work close to my producers.

00:32:34: one because most of them are in-house producers are my record label.

00:32:41: And then a lot of the other producers, they're just fresh stage producers that want to get a chance be heard and since I have a platform i work with them because they're new Just giving him a chance to get out there.

00:32:55: so like to you know collaborate.

00:32:58: but I feel like collaboration is a big thing Because if it was across promote My fan base might not have heard of them vice versa.

00:33:07: So I feel it's always a good way to work with somebody that is still collabed, whether be producers or artists.

00:33:15: Yep for sure and tell us about your platform.

00:33:18: you told me she had promo platforms so tell us all about them?

00:33:22: Yes well i've worked with certain artists.

00:33:25: um i started in detail basically doing some public stuff like press releases.

00:33:32: uh i do email blasts basically like when I help set up interviews, stuff like that.

00:33:39: So i do that for Tiban Sadiq as well John Jakes, Reno Rx and other artists out there that I work with.

00:33:48: so...I just like to help as much as I can to send those email blasts out to DJ's yourself and get the artist out there and help my boys out because sometimes you know It's a lot when you're trying to promote yourself as an artist and everybody doesn't have that built up email blast.

00:34:08: Like I've been doing this for six years, there has been some people who work with record labels through me their DJ list like look i believe in you his list of these.

00:34:18: you can send your stuff off too.

00:34:21: so You know how try To help other People In that capacity As well.

00:34:24: plus I'm A writer So writing Ios And press releases That's kind of my thing.

00:34:30: Yeah, that's dope what you're doing because You creating like your the middle woman between The hardest and the DJs And all that.

00:34:39: so that's though that should do in there.

00:34:41: It makes sure you keep sending those records my way.

00:34:43: So I can you know put them on a show?

00:34:46: I feel like it's great cuz.

00:34:47: this is.

00:34:47: I have

00:34:48: a bigger family so to speak, shockingly.

00:34:51: So it's nice.

00:34:53: you know how DJs who are spending my music abroad and...I plan on coming over there soon!

00:35:08: It is like still be able to network that way globally with the DJs in getting their music heard.

00:35:17: Yeah yeah but your doing some great music.

00:35:19: as a DJ i have to spin this when ive hear its just.

00:35:23: It's just dope, good hip hop.

00:35:25: I like the beat selection and things that you're talking about or the flows.

00:35:30: You have a nice voice

00:35:31: too.

00:35:32: So overall it is just dope.

00:35:34: so my job as DJ to put music in your ears of right people.

00:35:40: Thank you.

00:35:41: Sometimes there are a lot of politics with this music stuff And thats the problem.

00:35:48: Some people may hear me, you know just because like you said.

00:35:53: You liked the music and there's others who won't spend it for other reasons due to The politics of somebody else or something going on.

00:36:03: or Oh, she's doing drugs crack.

00:36:06: so this is hip hop.

00:36:08: here It's like the gravy sounds everything but I keep going DJs like you who respect the artistry that I'm playing now.

00:36:21: Yeah, it's dope and i'd love to see you doing collaborations with other female producers.

00:36:28: You just don't care about what people are saying or focusing on your music.

00:36:32: We

00:36:33: can hear them!

00:36:34: It sounds authentic.

00:36:36: That is why we're coming back authenticity in the music world, you know?

00:36:42: Because like for last ten years there's been a lot of bullshit.

00:36:46: Music people are trying to be commercial for no reason just staying away from their real self.

00:36:53: and we're coming back to authenticity.

00:36:55: what do you think about that?

00:37:01: yeah definitely I mean i've always been authentic...I feel like a lot the audience with what they think you want instead of actually giving what they have to offer.

00:37:14: You know, copy this, resale the sound when it be hardcore, remind me that's the other and I don't glorify gangs or things like that but i've lived at life.

00:37:31: I was in gangs...I ran away from home.

00:37:35: all this before the age of sixteen, like you know.

00:37:38: I was just out there and it's a life that i lived in even after taking my shahada.

00:37:45: You know?

00:37:46: I regressed back doing some other things I had been doing so.

00:37:52: I knew game left and right.

00:37:55: I've lived surrounded

00:37:58: by

00:37:59: gangsta people.

00:38:01: It is always about that but changed a lot.

00:38:06: but I still live that life and i feel like a lot of people pretend to have lived the life they never lived.

00:38:12: just put out content, put our music.

00:38:15: So anytime I put up something it's definitely authentic to me in my experiences and I felt like that's more genuine...that's more relatable when you put out that people can't understand, you know?

00:38:31: People understand heartache.

00:38:32: People understand struggling.

00:38:34: People understanding being hurt.

00:38:36: People in the same game suicidal.

00:38:38: I don't mind expressing myself about that.

00:38:41: People understands how it hurts to lose your mom and the impact they have on you And not speak of all those things but also realize if we can overcome adversity You can thrive as well.

00:38:56: So I feel like it's always best to be authentic self and pretty much, i just hope people hearin' in the music.

00:39:02: And I hope that they understand that im sending them a message that if I could overcome those things then you can overcome those too.

00:39:10: Yup yup and its stuff that people cant relate to Like u said They cant understand and they cant see that your life is authentic again.

00:39:18: You've been through some shit you know?

00:39:21: That one thing that ive liked about you was Like for example, there's a lot of female MCs that talk about sex.

00:39:29: You know what I'm saying?

00:39:29: It's cool one or two tracks but they do it all the time and i am tired.

00:39:33: so... I like when females take their mic to say some real stuff That can motivate other people maybe change their life around.

00:39:42: So I respect you for that, perhaps too

00:39:46: much pushing that.

00:39:52: I think Foxy and Little Cam broke the mold with it, but there's more to offer than just speaking on your body like.

00:40:08: i feel women should go out of respect if you don't get it from talking about things.

00:40:15: so yeah never speak on sexual things.

00:40:21: something sexual because I'm grown, of course.

00:40:24: You know?

00:40:24: Yeah!

00:40:26: I never going to delve into.

00:40:29: you know um sexual nuances Um...I just not gonna do it.

00:40:34: i already have enough people in my inbox.

00:40:37: I don't want any more ideas.

00:40:40: Yeah your right you're right.

00:40:42: and talking about like girls like Foxy Brown Like Lil' Kim Who's your all time favorite female MC?

00:40:49: Oh everybody knows Bahamadiah.

00:40:50: Yeah, the Queen Bahamadia.

00:40:55: And I always tell people that had the pleasure of her reaching out to me and we did give you a number?

00:41:05: We spoke for days on end for hours like who are you talking about?

00:41:11: I'm like Bahamadiya leave me alone!

00:41:15: That's dope, that's dope.

00:41:16: To deal with somebody whom you idolize and they notice your work And they're like, look let me give you some pointers.

00:41:24: So definitely Bahamadir.

00:41:26: Yep yep yeah dope music dope music.

00:41:30: Me my favorite female MC of all time and it's still... It has been like this since I was young as MC Light

00:41:35: See?

00:41:35: Okay yes!

00:41:36: I love Light to me!

00:41:38: Especially here from Brooklyn.

00:41:39: so you

00:41:40: already know Yeah she represents

00:41:42: BK all

00:41:42: day.

00:41:45: Let be ask her some mixtape questions.

00:41:47: You know i asked who were your favorite DJs And like, do you miss the mixtape format?

00:41:54: Of course.

00:41:57: I mean listen...I used to love listening to mixtapes.

00:42:02: There's nobody in hip-hop who can say they didn't delve into mixtapsed even right now.

00:42:09: i was thinking of starting a mixtape series and started with Alchemist & Hitboy joint then got couple more lined up that wanted to mix tape on.

00:42:20: so I love mixtapes, i love when adult mixtape comes together and you get to hear all the joints that you really loved one there.

00:42:29: And i kind of miss that era of the mixtape-the remixes...and just all different artists on.

00:42:38: you know..one mixtabe which is hot joints.

00:42:42: so i respect

00:42:43: it.

00:42:44: Yeah, that's dope.

00:42:45: You told me you wanted to do some mixtapes too.

00:42:49: When can we expect a mixtape from your freestyle or unreleased stuff?

00:42:56: It is coming!

00:42:57: I already started working on one.

00:43:00: The first joint i dropped was not too much which is the remix of Alchemist and Bully James' joints.

00:43:09: I'll say that because actually nobody has it.

00:43:13: I just seen on Instagram so i'll make sure to see you.

00:43:15: Oh yeah, for

00:43:16: show!

00:43:16: For a show!

00:43:16: That's an exclusive!

00:43:19: Dope, dope.

00:43:20: yes, send it to me and we will play in the show for

00:43:22: sure.

00:43:24: Yes And when your listening to a mixtape like what do want hear when you press play?

00:43:33: Man for one I wanna hear a dope intro.

00:43:39: I love to hear the drops.

00:43:41: that is another thing.

00:43:42: if there's any

00:43:43: skits

00:43:43: I love those too but i just love to hear like a pulsating beat.

00:43:48: I love the beat that really grabs me as you can tell,I'm very particular about beats.

00:43:55: so I need a beat that starts off with a little nuance and then it builds up in your next thing.

00:44:04: you know It has me going.

00:44:06: okay this.

00:44:07: is it

00:44:08: because A mixtape just has layers to it, like you have to have layers and dope transitions from song-to-song?

00:44:16: so that's what I look

00:44:17: for.

00:44:18: No doubt no doubt your mixtaped guy gotta feel a bit like a movie he knows got.

00:44:22: take you into an ambience You know?

00:44:25: Like some type of grimy place

00:44:26: when you hear it Like everything just needs to be flow with each other.

00:44:32: So the transitions have like really dope, all the cuts and scratches things in between.

00:44:38: I need all of that.

00:44:40: And if you had to choose a legendary mixtape DJ to Austin mix your mixtapes?

00:44:47: Who would you chose?

00:44:48: Rest In Peace, DJ K-Slayer.

00:44:49: Yeah, Rest In peace with K-Slayers.

00:44:54: Yes yes...I mean his words are my favorite.

00:44:59: so i'd love to listen.

00:45:01: has like, there was so many unreleased joints that I could recall till today.

00:45:08: And I'm like wow!

00:45:08: I've never even heard this played anywhere.

00:45:11: K-Slade would do it all.

00:45:13: I think it was a joint...I can't remember if it was Papoose called Across the Tracks or something like that and they were on the K-slade mixtape?

00:45:22: And i just love them.

00:45:23: Never heard anybody else really play that joint.

00:45:26: Nice,

00:45:27: nice.

00:45:28: I kind of stuck with him like that.

00:45:30: Yeah rest in peace to K Slay you know?

00:45:32: Yes.

00:45:34: I always have respect for him.

00:45:36: even before he passed away it did the freestyle with fifty MCs or a hundred

00:45:40: MC's two hundred and

00:45:43: five.

00:45:43: Oh yeah!

00:45:43: It is so dope.

00:45:44: nobody told about doing this before him but they did it

00:45:48: right now.

00:45:51: He was innovative.

00:45:52: I love that series.

00:45:56: When i was managing jazzo, he did a mixtape with

00:46:08: him on it and i think it was jazz twister, somebody else.

00:46:10: Oh yeah what's his name?

00:46:11: Lazy Bone, Jazzo.

00:46:12: Yeah

00:46:13: you remember that

00:46:14: one.

00:46:14: So yes so he did THAT one when

00:46:17: i was management in Jazz And i was like okay

00:46:23: this is dope!

00:46:23: Yeah, I think it was a sixty seconds.

00:46:28: Super dope super dope.

00:46:30: that's cool because you know jazzo deliver the hill verse You know what?

00:46:33: That makes people be like oh shit is still

00:46:36: doing it.

00:46:36: yeah he is

00:46:37: Legendary Jazz.

00:46:39: Oh Yes!

00:46:39: That

00:46:39: was my boy right

00:46:41: there.

00:46:43: So let me show him Do that and be highlighted in a dope way again with music.

00:46:49: And i really appreciate That joint and him being able to really shine

00:46:56: on them.

00:46:56: Yeah, you know in showcases skills as a MC because he's a pioneer when it comes too.

00:47:01: You know that.

00:47:02: tongue twisting rapping Yep, yep, yeah, that's the name.

00:47:09: Let.

00:47:10: let's go back in time like you told me.

00:47:12: no you went through some stuff, you knoja When you were young.

00:47:16: What made you want to start a career as an emcee?

00:47:20: like do remember the day when You say to yourself, okay.

00:47:23: This is what I'm going.

00:47:46: Sometimes, you know we take a little break.

00:47:49: I used to write poems

00:47:50: Okay,

00:47:51: and he's the right song.

00:47:52: so they select the right songs and poems And of course all like a little rap here in there.

00:47:58: So There was one time I was in the Tabernacle when i went and put on the TV You see no it's just me A couple To the sour and some am their little couple and they bought me.

00:48:12: cat says me and the cat the doors come on.

00:48:17: And so Jim Morrison is one of my inspirations for actually turning my poems into music, and when I watched that movie i was inspired to try means a different way it's to turn the poems into raps and turned the poems in two songs...and so that wasn't at the point where I started writing.

00:48:41: They were righteous raps, of course.

00:48:42: But they was still raps and I was like okay you know...I can rap a little bit!

00:48:49: I never really took it seriously because on the spiritual journey but later one when i returned home probably around in two thousand three or two thousand four I started to take more seriously write my first song And then wrote this song called I Lost Daughter And I put it up on MySpace, which shows you how old that is.

00:49:15: Put it in my MySpace and...I get a message from Professor Griff from Public Enemy and he was like yo ya dope!

00:49:25: He's like a hardcore Brooklyn dude.

00:49:27: so well i am a Brooklyn girl but yeah thank you so much.

00:49:32: So..he took me to the dinner And he was just giving me gems and words of wisdom to keep pushing forward with my music.

00:49:45: You know, don't let anybody stop me or things like

00:49:48: that.".

00:49:50: So it was really Professor Griff did kind of catapulting me forward to consider taking my craft to another level.

00:49:59: I recently ran into him at an art show a couple weeks ago too so putting that battery in my bag to keep going.

00:50:10: That's super dope, you know?

00:50:12: To have dinner with a legend like that and influence

00:50:15: you too!

00:50:16: You know go holler into doing music...that is super dope right there.

00:50:20: Much respect for him much respect

00:50:22: to him.

00:50:27: Thankyou!

00:50:27: What can we expect from you musically in twenty-twenty six and beyond?

00:50:31: I know you just dropped two projects but tell the people about what you got going on.

00:50:35: Oh my

00:50:36: God, I'm just gonna drop bombs!

00:50:39: Watch what i say because then they try to make a terroristic threat.

00:50:42: But now...I am not supposed to drop some music

00:50:46: More

00:50:46: Music!

00:50:47: I just dropped Apex Rituals featuring Tekzilla, Sequoia Symphony from my boy Tuna and Gale in Japan, Texan Nigeria, I've got Vince Vega coming up in Paris, so for me if it's big about the Vangana then I got my boy brand new beats and all of my reggae triad crew B-Spot Boogie, K-Daro, Goldfings, Quain New like um My Boy Saved Me, True Cipher.

00:51:18: So i'm just coming with a whole bunch on projects that have A dope collab project with a hip-hop legend coming.

00:51:25: I'm not going to name them yet, so we're working on it.

00:51:28: when we drop and we're dropping hard So they come over the music become what the visuals Working with you are.

00:51:37: no band camp doing interviews.

00:51:40: Dusty's vinyl magazines have some more vinyl interviews that I did coming up.

00:51:46: I'm just staying busy.

00:51:48: Working on film, because i am a film writer as well.

00:51:51: so I'm working on completing the tarot film that I've been working on is well it's two books.

00:51:58: So shout out to Suñez La cause.

00:52:01: he's one of my inspirations for journalism.

00:52:04: He writes books...he interviews us and has been doing this forever since double excel.

00:52:12: You name any hip hop magazine.

00:52:14: he's worked with them.

00:52:15: So, like my mentor and inspiration He has many books out so that what I'm aspiring to do just hone my craft keep putting up content.

00:52:27: One book is for the culture another book it's a self-improvement.

00:52:32: And then I write horror films.

00:52:34: so i'm converting some of my horror films into books.

00:52:39: Nice I am staying very

00:52:40: busy.

00:52:41: Yeah I can hear that.

00:52:43: That's crazy, you got a lot on your plate!

00:52:47: Yes!

00:52:48: So music books and movies?

00:52:51: Yes

00:52:52: Nice nice nice.

00:52:54: That is dope.

00:52:54: much respect to you.

00:52:55: You know putting girls in the map.

00:52:59: Do we have any words of advice for young female MCs?

00:53:04: or maybe listening to us right

00:53:05: now?

00:53:08: Ladies keep integrity Keep your emotions intact use your discernment when it comes to people.

00:53:17: Always be authentic self and just keep going even when you feel like It's getting hard, and that's not worth.

00:53:26: It is always gonna Be worth in the end.

00:53:28: keep going.

00:53:31: yeah

00:53:32: real world of advice right there.

00:53:33: make sure follow what Indigo Phoenix just said, you know?

00:53:37: Because we want to hear some more dope female MCs.

00:53:41: Word!

00:53:42: I really do like to collab with females and it's hard working with females sometimes because of the stigma that gets put up where women feel they could only be one thriving female MC.

00:53:58: so this is a caddy competition but i don't see.

00:54:03: Um, we should support each other more And we should uplift each other.

00:54:08: We could collab more.

00:54:10: Yeah, we do more shows together.

00:54:12: We should do videos and content to gather the more projects Together.

00:54:16: like.

00:54:16: I would love to do a joint album with just me in another female be it a producer or A rapper but is hard because so many people move off of egos sometimes, cadmium jealousy and when I hit those hurdles i just kind of...i've learned to refocus back to myself.

00:54:43: And stop the wishful thinking!

00:54:45: Yeah yeah

00:54:47: yeah..I understand you know it's not easy.

00:54:49: you gotta deal with the egos like you said the personalities this should be a Wu Tang-like female Wu Tang type

00:54:56: group.

00:54:57: exactly Man listen, you know who is fam?

00:55:03: You know I've been there through the inception of Wu-Tang and it takes a lot of stuff to get that level they were at.

00:55:16: For me being a teen watching them come up like...I remember us passing out the method man cassettes for meth.

00:55:27: They would come in town To my daughter's grandmother house all come chillin', like, um... Eson was my daughter's uncle.

00:55:36: So it-it just a vibe to see them.

00:55:39: It takes a lot of work To get that close knit Like they were and really put the business forward above everything else.

00:55:50: so I respect and commend them for The work They did behind the scenes Just before they really blew up And when they blew up Keeping it all together.

00:56:00: So It's a lot of work.

00:56:03: I'm not gonna live have people in my crew and just doesn't last, and there has to be lack of the ego.

00:56:10: Everybody has to do on the same page.

00:56:13: Nobody has to take anybody else's spot And is hard-to-find.

00:56:19: Seven People who are going to stay on that Plateau which you can really build with You and There's Not Problems That Arise.

00:56:27: so i commend what saying for always thriving in that element.

00:56:31: Back then I didn't even want to rap when i was around, I was just content hanging out and you know showing up at the hotel rooms and just partying man.

00:56:44: we were jumping down on ghostface bedding suites stuff like this.

00:56:50: being kids y'know?

00:56:51: We went before The Girls at night because one of my cousins friends with them too My daughter's father, you know like I said he was like brothers with their son.

00:57:01: So yeah hang out in the day but not late at night.

00:57:06: Yeah it is not for kids.

00:57:09: I mean I was there.

00:57:12: Rave did his first performance here with RZA and now i'm as pregnant on that show!

00:57:18: Like I have a picture of Blackhall to Jersey my stomach just out then.

00:57:23: Then they were RZA Watching the group and I'm still in touch with Ruquan.

00:57:28: And it's just crazy like The things that i went through to watch those groups thrive, Like It was this dope To be a part of That.

00:57:39: so i think Wu-Tang Rock & Roll Hall called the fame.

00:57:44: Shout out!

00:57:45: I hope everybody is voting to put them In there because they really deserve

00:57:48: that.

00:57:49: Of course They influenced So many MCs not even mcs but Just people in general.

00:57:56: You see kids right now in twenty-twenty six with Wu Tang shirts.

00:58:01: It's crazy when you think about it, there is no other rap group that can pretend the same thing!

00:58:05: No

00:58:05: not and I don't think its an easy game to do what Wu Tang did.

00:58:11: they made through so much adversity So much loss And i really respect them admire how far have come from when seen them.
