00:32:04: point in all of that.
00:32:06: Yeah man You know, listening to Jazzy Jeff is kind of going into a musical adventure.
00:32:12: Like you go through many tracks the original samples and he drops one that uses same sample.
00:32:18: Yeah!
00:32:18: This is crazy man this
00:32:18: is really
00:32:21: crazy.
00:32:22: Yup it's music history lessons for guys out there.
00:32:27: And I have another mixtape edit question from you but i think i know the answer to this one... ...and people who follow your work knows their answers as well.
00:32:36: Do you miss the mixtape format, bro?
00:32:39: Yes
00:32:40: of course man.
00:32:41: Of course!
00:32:44: You know me for a long time and I've been doing this shit since twenty years now and the past few days was all good.
00:32:52: but the mixtures came not so much here in Germany... ...but also US, France etc.
00:33:00: And i'm thinking today it's kinda dead.
00:33:04: That's what you think?
00:33:07: You think it is not going to come back in a different format, maybe...different way?
00:33:16: I don't think so.
00:33:18: The problem for me that every artist and rapper is dropping the mixtape or name it a mixtape but doesn't have DJ on it like personal days.
00:33:31: Personal day is Thursday, Joe Biden, Fabulous.
00:33:36: You know the names, everybody's dropping mixtapes with DJs.
00:33:39: Who kids drama and the clue all this stuff?
00:33:42: And it is not happening
00:33:44: anymore.
00:33:46: Only the artists say oh my new mixtape coming next friday tune in to Spotify.
00:33:56: For me, it's not the real mixtape.
00:33:59: Mixtap is mixing DJ skills, cutting transitions
00:34:03: all this stuff.
00:34:03: I agree with that!
00:34:05: It can be a hip-hop artist dropping a mixtap but there has to be a DJ behind next you know?
00:34:10: To put some drops on it and mix up projects... But he can't be your mixtAPE from one artist.
00:34:15: we've seen that like with Pat Poole in K-Slave for example.
00:34:19: You
00:34:20: are dropping a lot to any official tapes or something
00:34:28: like that, I don't know.
00:34:30: How did you adapt to the streaming platforms?
00:34:33: because it changed everything for us DJs?
00:34:36: Like how do you keep doing mixtapes and keep your motivation when you've seen the platform arrive?
00:34:48: For me... It's cool just to discover new music about this streaming platforms with all these playlists and they put in some tracks I don't know, even not looking for.
00:35:05: This is pretty cool but... They are not breaking your artists or something like that what the DJs did as a person.
00:35:12: so it's two different worlds.
00:35:19: And do you agree with me if I say that the streaming platform kind of stole the mixtape format, but a playlist and everything?
00:35:29: It's an interesting point.
00:35:32: Because nowadays when you go on Spotify they have playlists in which songs actually fade out together.
00:35:39: Yes!
00:35:41: The new function for fading...I don't like it.
00:35:46: I know most people like it and listen to these players,
00:35:54: they think that's dope mix.
00:35:54: They call it a dope mix when its just the players.
00:35:58: but you're still dropping mixtapes because we gotta let them know.
00:36:02: for those who don't know about DJ EZ You are one of the best international mixtape DJs out there.
00:36:09: You always come up with big names, you know the solid track list.
00:36:14: The hard work is also very important for you.
00:36:17: So tell people man about the world that's been doing over the years.
00:36:20: me personally I know boy and yeah i gotta let a man talk about to work.
00:36:27: Yeah started back in days when it was sixteen seventeen eighteen during mixes only from your my friend.
00:36:33: then Then put them out on internet and no, not the first CDs or tapes.
00:36:43: And then in the late nineties early two thousandths the mixtape scene was huge on internet, active sites like mixtapes.
00:36:52: you know all these sites.
00:36:54: we are dropping our tape there... ...and I learned how important it is to have good artworks to shine through other artists and DJ's.
00:37:06: And with all this stuff I did in the past, I grew up and... ...with my connections to the artist.
00:37:15: And I hollered them with MySpace at the past of days now via Instagram and decided to do several artist tapes best-of tapes.
00:37:32: Then I have two series, you know that.
00:37:34: The Easy Listening Series where i try to support underground artists with hip-hop and boom-bap music.
00:37:42: for me it's worked from the heart.
00:37:45: You know what am saying?
00:37:48: The artist are very thankful for opportunity to host the tapes.
00:37:53: then I have the Pimpin' and Easy Series is more like mainstream music More R&B like Yeah, and for me I don't see that i do so great stuff but... ...I get the feedback from all sides.
00:38:07: The big names I have on it takes with Bardo, Graf, Maino... ...Skazoo, I don´t know how to show something bigger still than a pipeline.
00:38:19: And yeah!
00:38:20: It's still fun doing this stuff and trying to support our artists Back in the days, hip-hop community, the mix tape community, DJ community is
00:38:32: all support and stuff.
00:38:33: But you're doing a great work man!
00:38:35: You are keeping your mix tapes spirit alive.
00:38:38: That's why I had to have you on this show Because like you said...you worked with alot of big names And some names that also.
00:38:44: maybe we can't really talk about because it coming soon but i knew he has drops from famous MC legendary MC not too long ago.
00:38:55: I don't know if i can say his name, but i think you had drugs by master ace.
00:38:58: But im not mistaken bro.
00:38:59: Yes yes of course The tape is still in the make-in.
00:39:04: Thankyou
00:39:05: again here for making this happen to connect us.
00:39:10: Master Ace was hosting the easy listening volume forty.
00:39:13: It's a legend edition The idea.
00:39:18: it put new music from all legends from the nineties on this.
00:39:23: master ace BreakG, Kujirap.
00:39:27: They all still drop in music and this is the idea and Master Ace is perfect to host his tape.
00:39:34: Thank you again brother to hook us up.
00:39:38: I have something very special about the pipeline but I don't know if i should drop it.
00:39:44: But ah!
00:39:46: I dropped your name.
00:39:46: right now I have a mix-save in the pipeline that's hosted by Fred the Godson, rest in peace.
00:39:57: I have
00:39:58: Fred the god one of the greatest lyricists from a new era and i had that opportunity to talk with him and connect before his tragic death in two thousand
00:40:11: years.
00:40:11: Can you remember year exactly?
00:40:15: I think it's twenty-twenty something like during the covid.
00:40:18: It is really a tragic death because of Covid.
00:40:24: This is something I have still in a pipeline because it's not the real time to drop.
00:40:30: It's
00:40:33: dope man, you've got a lot on your plate.
00:40:35: that why i like what u do.
00:40:37: cause u just never stop and you keep the same spirit ,the same energy And u always represent for real hip hop.
00:40:45: Sometimes u have underground MCs hosting your stuff too Not only legends but u give them The light, you know the shine on underground hearties too and that's our job as DJs.
00:40:57: It is good to play mainstream all day but we also gotta put some lights in underground hearts.
00:41:03: so much love for them bro.
00:41:06: Thankyou very much.
00:41:07: I think it´s important still today For farce djs to break underground artists.
00:41:12: new artists don't artist.
00:41:15: This what i focussed on the easy listening mixip series.
00:41:20: Where can people go and get the mixtapes?
00:41:22: Now, where can they download everything listen to the work that you've done?
00:41:28: Nowadays I drop them on SoundCloud.
00:41:31: You can look for DJ EZ aka Mr Mixtape.
00:41:35: Nickname got from a friend of an agency or wherever And all my older tapes are still on coast-to-coastmixtapest.com.
00:41:46: Okay!
00:41:50: ask me via Instagram and I'll send direct links.
00:41:54: It's hard to keep all the links alive, sometimes... I had all my tapes on that pitch but the site is gone!
00:42:06: The greatest or largest site for mixtapes, big names dropped their tapes.
00:42:12: Tableau Rigros, Louvain, official tapes were dropping over.
00:42:18: That piff put the cells down.
00:42:21: You know, they made me shut three of my deadpiff accounts for mixtapes.
00:42:27: Before before I got shut down i received a letter from a lawyer at America.
00:42:34: He was loyal to one brother.
00:42:36: he told me if you keep dropping mixtaps on that piff We'll shut all your account and being stubborn as I am I said fuck that!
00:42:45: I don't care.
00:42:45: still make tapes.
00:42:47: They shut down all my debt before counts.
00:42:52: I know what you're saying because i got the same emails with all the DMCAs.
00:43:00: So now SoundCloud is on my site, everybody can listen there for free and if they want a download link ,I can send
00:43:08: it.
00:43:09: That's dope man.
00:43:10: And are you working or maybe building your own website where people get to archive like old shit from back in days?
00:43:18: Yes, and it's also my to-do list.
00:43:21: It is very hard.
00:43:22: do all the stuff for me because I don't have a really huge team but maybe Bandcamp as an opportunity we think about.
00:43:33: So... I know that because of the requests are sometimes real huge with older tapes like the big punk tape or the Rackin' Tape or the Guru tribute tape.
00:43:49: Yeah, I'm still working on it.
00:43:52: Nice nice we'll be here to support man you know.
00:43:55: Thank You very
00:43:55: much, appreciate
00:43:56: it!
00:43:56: We
00:43:57: will spread the word and you've been there for a while like say about twenty years or something that should have been doing mixtapes being hip-hop DJ what has been your biggest challenge in your career so far?
00:44:13: Biggest Challenge is to combine They do real life with the artist's life.
00:44:20: I think you can... You know what i mean?
00:44:23: Because,
00:44:24: uh still a regular job doing and also kid at home.
00:44:29: to combine it all both worlds is really challenging but I'll do my best!
00:44:35: And..I Think It Works!
00:44:37: Yeah yeah definitely works man!
00:44:40: What are your secrets for longevity?
00:44:44: ?
00:44:45: Because you've been here for a while.
00:44:46: What's the secret, do think?
00:44:47: You have to stay motivated and also like you said you know juggle between The Hardest Life, The DJ life.
00:44:54: Like what is the secret today that still being there after twenty years?
00:44:59: For me it´s still love of the game And love hip hop Love of doing mixtapes Work with artists.
00:45:06: Get support from other DJs like you From all the love I get for work.
00:45:13: This is still motivating me, I'm still hungry.
00:45:16: Still have a lot of ideas and projects to make it... So
00:45:21: yeah!
00:45:22: I think there's no end in the wild.
00:45:29: so i was still dropping tapes even if I am sixty-eight or ninety years
00:45:38: old.
00:45:38: It's love all this stuff.
00:45:39: Yeah man you know when its in your blood?
00:45:42: you know, like ending date man.
00:45:43: You can just do that until the days are over bro!
00:45:48: We see for example I don't want to say he's old but he is the OG DJ Premier.
00:45:53: we've seen Ice-T still rapping, Grandmaster Kaz they're all sixty plus and it's still doing their shit man!
00:46:02: Yes yeah...you said right these are the great ones, the OGs And They'r Still Doing Their Shit & They Are Still Relevant.
00:46:09: This Is Also Important And the greatest motivation for me is to do it till I'm like...
00:46:19: Yeah, yeah man.
00:46:20: For sure!
00:46:21: Let's talk about the young upcoming DJs.
00:46:24: Like would you have any words of advice?
00:46:27: Maybe some young guys that wanna start doing mixtapes because they've seen some shit online.
00:46:32: They've seen the K-Slade tapes The Green Lantern tapes Just like us when we were young.
00:46:37: What could you say to these young DJs?
00:46:41: I would say, don't do it for fame or the money.
00:46:45: Do it for love and i think that's a secret And then we will be successful.
00:46:53: If you try to do only for the fame For the money of women Something like this It is not the right way.
00:47:03: So...I was young here Seeing all these tapes Listened to all those tapes.
00:47:10: I have to mention that i'm from Germany, the old GDR generation.
00:47:15: From East side of Berlin and don't had all opportunities.
00:47:24: get all these tapes in the early nineties.
00:47:28: so for me it was The Love Of The Game.
00:47:30: this is advice would give young new upcoming DJs.
00:47:38: you'd be left
00:47:39: with love what u do.
00:47:40: Yep, I think you gotta be passionate about what you do man.
00:47:42: Always gonna
00:47:43: work.
00:47:44: You got to be in your blood man.
00:47:46: And then...you know when we talk about being a young kid like Do you remember the day where you fell in love with hip-hop and decided To make it your thing?
00:47:55: Like start doing mixtapes, stop being a DJ?
00:47:58: Do you remeber that day?
00:48:01: Not exactly but I remember my first CD single ever.
00:48:10: I
00:48:16: still listen to this track.
00:48:18: I did a barbecue few days ago, and that shit was bumping.
00:48:21: Yes!
00:48:23: Still playing it on my sets... I'm DJ'ed in the real big old-school party here in Germany.
00:48:29: It's the opera gold parties for people over thirty.
00:48:36: That was the day, I fell in love with hip-hop and all of culture.
00:48:41: I came from basketball on this side, graffiti... I tried everything!
00:48:46: And the mixtapes came in... ...in ninety nine?
00:48:53: Ninety eight, ninety
00:48:55: nine?!
00:48:55: So like i said when i was sixteen it started mixing my own stuff for friends.
00:49:05: The mixtapes came in and I'll see all this stuff from DJ Klum, the DJMV Premiere, all these stuffs.
00:49:14: Later early two thousandth career at Green Lantern was a great inspiration for the mixtape game Smalls from South.
00:49:24: Yeah
00:49:27: that brings back memories man!
00:49:29: I remember i don't know if you ever heard of that tape Green Lanter and DJ K Slay.
00:49:35: I think it was called New York something.
00:49:38: Yeah with the cover
00:49:41: The Empire State Building was
00:49:43: like blue, grey
00:49:48: This one right here.
00:49:49: when i was young I was like slap in my face When I heard It's
00:49:55: a great tape of
00:49:56: course.
00:49:57: And Green Lantern
00:49:57: always did great tapes because he was I think one of the DJs who always cuts and spins doing backspins, all that DJ stuff.
00:50:10: Clue was the one with the gunshots and the shoutouts and all exclusives.
00:50:16: but Green Lantern was with the DJ skills And it's very impressive for him.
00:50:20: Yeah he still had the DJ scales.
00:50:23: He has exclusive tracks.
00:50:24: You can mix, you can scratch or host.
00:50:28: So overall Green Lanter was super dope man.
00:50:30: Yeah, I think he went back into like doing music production and we've live performances for major artists.
00:50:39: He was the DJ for Eminem, for Nas and all
00:50:43: these
00:50:44: stuff... Big names!
00:50:46: Yes sir And you're doing old school parties?
00:50:50: What else do you do?
00:50:51: Do you DJ in clubs too in Germany?
00:50:55: Still doing this once or twice a month?
00:51:01: It's a very huge, old school party here in Germany.
00:51:06: Sometimes they have dates from four different cities at the same time and also book big names like Redman or Montel Jordan, Shai from all of the nineties artists... Yeah it is still fun to spin all these nineties records see people dancing enjoying their time.
00:51:29: Yeah man, where can people go and see you?
00:51:31: Like what's the name of club?
00:51:32: for those that might be travelling to Germany?
00:51:35: I mean it
00:51:35: is not a specific club It´s the Opat Gold party And we are in different cities like Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf Berlin.
00:51:47: Of course Check us out at opatgold.party.
