00:33:07: They know when music is authentic When the grind is real they see passion And somebody's eyes when he talks about it.
00:33:13: We're coming back because there have been so many you know, bullshit music and bullshit DJs came out of those past fifteen-twenty years.
00:33:22: And now it's getting back to the realness again!
00:33:26: What do you think about that?
00:33:28: Getting Back To The Realness Of Music?
00:33:30: I mean...the problem is we have less fans than everybody thinking how they can do what we need to do.
00:33:37: We Need To Take It Back To Actually Fans And Actually DJs.
00:33:44: You Know If can play on Serato, you should also know how to play vinyl.
00:33:51: For sure!
00:33:52: You understand?
00:33:53: I'm not saying that get your own... start your own vinyl collection from scratch like at least practice off of vinyl because when you DJ with Serato and you're DJing with your eyes.
00:34:06: When you DJ it with vinyl then you are DJ-ing with the ears which is where all started.
00:34:22: That's true right there yeah.
00:34:24: Ditto I have a mixtape question, another one for you guys.
00:34:28: I don't really know the answer to this but do people need hear it?
00:34:32: Do You Guys Miss The Mixtape Format?
00:34:45: In a physical form maybe like just having that little cassette in your hand and whole putting that cassette in and whatever.
00:34:53: I missed out.
00:34:53: but with MixCloud, and really YouTube you could find the mix tapes on that service especially with Mixcloud.
00:35:04: like MixCloud You can get all these DJ sets That you want to hear.
00:35:11: Like you might wanna hear Kick Your Breed Might Wanna Hear Boogie Blind You Might Want To Hear.
00:35:16: I don't know.
00:35:16: DJ Premier You could go find that either on MixCloud
00:35:20: or you can find it on YouTube.
00:35:22: So, everything now is made for convenience.
00:35:25: so I guess holding the original tape... ...is not a thing anymore but..you still get some music and sound from either YouTube or MixCloud.
00:35:40: What about your evil D?
00:35:44: The physicality of holding a mix-take....I missed that BUT I still do mixes.
00:35:51: I have over, uh... seventeen hundred mixes on MixCloud and i just started putting mix-i start-i have mixes now On Apple Music.
00:36:06: So..I had mixes out there.
00:36:09: so And i still do a mix sets for you know um You know put them online though For everybody.
00:36:19: Plus, you know I'm being on Twitch and all that.
00:36:24: That's the new mixtape right there.
00:36:27: So every week me and Mr.
00:36:29: Walt we drop a mix every week.
00:36:38: so it still to me is just now.
00:36:40: its not in physical form.
00:36:42: Yeah, it's in a different format now.
00:36:46: The one thing I really love about mixtape is not only the mix itself but also that being a platform for new artists and producers to be heard.
00:36:56: because back on mixtapes days when you didn't have any problems with copyrights... You could rock any piece or rap about anybody even if they were offending somebody.
00:37:12: The me personally I miss, you know the mixtape being a platform for new hollies to be heard.
00:37:18: Right!
00:37:20: Yeah... You know it's the gift and the curse y'know?
00:37:24: Like you can still do that.
00:37:27: You could still do like..the only thing stopping was YOU.
00:37:30: Yep yep.
00:37:31: Y'know like its still-that platform is there people are doing the same things.
00:37:37: just y'know.
00:37:38: once again i said this not in physical form.
00:37:42: Yep, you
00:37:44: know
00:37:45: so it's still out there.
00:37:46: You just gotta dig for it.
00:37:47: Yeah for sure.
00:37:48: and that's good That your in-your guys like you are putting out the mix on mixed cloud Of course which is palpable about also using to new ways of streaming Like twitch not going live and all that.
00:37:58: So that's one way to keep dead that spirit alive with a new modern twenty-twenty six technology.
00:38:05: Right
00:38:07: if the one thing I will say is this And I've been saying this and say it again.
00:38:15: In order to keep hip hop alive, in order to what we do live... ...we have to embrace new technology because they're trying to phase out the old technology so that somehow we can embrace the new technology and bring the old rules into a new technology.
00:38:38: You know, it's like I remember when Serato first came out.
00:38:41: Oh that's not...Oh Serato is wack!
00:38:44: Yo this that in the third and blah blah blah but rec companies wasn't making their records.
00:38:52: Even when CDJs came out they was trying to stop making records And if a DJ doesn't have music he's useless.
00:39:03: So, you know we what?
00:39:04: We have to do?
00:39:05: is You know like we have to just embrace the new technology with the old world rules.
00:39:10: It's like for instance.
00:39:11: We all use Serato We all used serato.
00:39:15: We are using CDJs We use what we use But I'm still gonna cut scratch manipulate those records The same way i do on turntables.
00:39:25: then at the Same time I can Still go back To my vinyl which me and won't do All the Time and do the same thing.
00:39:33: Like, it's to a point where you don't know if we're on turntables or if were on Serato unless your looking.
00:39:40: Yup!
00:39:41: If you are good DJ anyway then you can rock anything.
00:39:44: And I remember watching a video of DJ Ace cut Lutonet.
00:39:48: he was scratching with tiny controller like that like a tiny controller looks like
00:39:54: this super
00:39:56: small and cutting the
00:39:57: shit out of him.
00:39:57: It's funny cause he made, when did that video?
00:40:02: I went and actually got...I ended up getting one of those controllers.
00:40:07: Like thats the controller When Im on a plane flying somewhere.
00:40:09: Thats what i practice on And its like yo at end of day.
00:40:16: you see how he manipulated That.
00:40:19: We have to do same thing You know?
00:40:22: Cause think about it If beatmon has come out to France To Do A Party I would rather be able to bring my whole record collection than just two or three cases of records.
00:40:34: That way we could rock an abundance music for y'all, you know?
00:40:40: Because that's the main difference with Back In The Days is like carrying all those vinyls man!
00:40:45: They can paint in the air sometimes.
00:40:47: and now we have Serato so it has thousands... tens of thousands of songs for a party.
00:40:53: so you can rock anything and it actually boosts your creativity sometimes.
00:40:59: Of course, like when we rock with Serato I look at that more as we're mixing but also producing because y'know if i wanna cut up the Elvis break instead of it being like im at a party where my records are going.
00:41:18: ohhh thats a hole.
00:41:19: You know what I'm saying?
00:41:23: Yeah, man.
00:41:24: But I have another... My third mixtape had a question for you, man is to you guys What makes it great mixtapes?
00:41:34: Well, Imma be real.
00:41:36: Imma DJ snob.
00:41:38: So that's right.
00:41:42: I look at certain DJs like once you hit them turntables you gotta come
00:41:48: correct
00:41:49: so you can't come on the turntable And be half-assed, because then I'm gonna give you the dirtiest look.
00:41:56: Imma look at somebody to fucking make it laugh in your face and stuff like that... ...and i will be quick to tell ya' That wasn't it bro!
00:42:05: I mean im not the greatest DJ but I take this DJ shit real serious.
00:42:11: So he says hes NOT THE GREATEST?
00:42:15: I'm telling you Like thats how serious I take it.
00:42:18: And I think if all around mid-state, your transition got to be tight.
00:42:24: Your blend's gotta be tight If you scratch it, your scratch has gotta be like.
00:42:29: my thing is rehearsal.
00:42:30: You should rehearse this before you do It.
00:42:34: I'm a hundred and one advocate
00:42:39: for
00:42:40: rehearsal.
00:42:41: in practicing I practice every day.
00:42:43: I've been DJing since nineteen.
00:42:44: seventy seven practice till this day, twenty-twenty six.
00:42:50: I still practice every week.
00:42:53: i practice
00:42:54: yeah got to gotta stay in shape man it's like boxing.
00:42:56: Yeah!
00:42:57: This is uh...this is a dojo.
00:42:59: you gotta make sure
00:43:01: that
00:43:02: your on point Like I said anyone who's hitting those turntables You've gotta be on point especially if you're playing out..I know there one girl right?
00:43:10: This girl she been DJing.
00:43:13: She tells me she the DJ.
00:43:14: But I say yo, i've known you for like five six years.
00:43:17: You never DJ once Why?
00:43:21: You don't know.
00:43:22: You're on dj.
00:43:23: why you don't send me none of your mixes.
00:43:25: i'm gonna be real
00:43:26: because they scare of you.
00:43:27: Yeah She said she I interrogate her and it says you motherfucking right.
00:43:31: I interrogated Because when you get on the turntable you supposed to be correct.
00:43:36: That's that One time there was one DJ who is deejaying right?
00:43:43: Not for his name but he was deejain.
00:43:46: He passed away too.
00:43:47: He was DJing though, right?
00:43:49: And his mixers were awful.
00:43:51: Damn!
00:43:52: We we're at a club and I had DJ Scratch with me.
00:43:58: so DJ Scratcher's on the stage with him... ...and i'm in the crowd.
00:44:02: So every time he would do a fucked up Mitch.. ..I'd look at Scratch.
00:44:07: And Scratch wouldn't put it head down because you know that I keep looking to make them
00:44:13: laugh.
00:44:14: But I was severely saying to Strat, yo that's your man.
00:44:17: Make sure you're a man is correct.
00:44:20: Go help your man
00:44:21: out!
00:44:23: Yo... Me?
00:44:25: I practice like i practice-I don't.
00:44:29: I don't practice sets.
00:44:31: I practice um.. I call them scenarios.
00:44:35: Okay
00:44:35: Like I'll practice with maybe three or four rec-i'll do a thing of three and four records Then I'll do another thing for three and Four Records.
00:44:42: And then our practice spend like a good amount of time just scratching.
00:44:48: To keep my scratches tight.
00:44:50: and
00:44:51: you know, when I get on the set what i do is...a kind-of freestyle because every scenario's different.
00:45:02: When you walk into a club You don't know What they want to hear? You Don't Know What's going On.
00:45:10: so you got to be able to drop in And make sure Whatever that first record you drop is That racket
00:45:18: yep
00:45:18: to keep them glued for the whole set.
00:45:21: Yep,
00:45:23: so that's one of the reasons I don't practice sets.
00:45:27: But like I said.
00:45:27: I practiced Like I'll take a record right let's say mama said knock you out and i'll make A routine with that racquet okay?
00:45:36: I'll sit there And be like makeup every possible routine I can With that record.
00:45:41: So when I drop it in a set When I look at the crowd, I know which routine i'm going to.
00:45:48: What cut am gonna do?
00:45:51: Like always have choices like go here or there and that's how.
00:45:57: That is a skill you know To be able to know where are you going?
00:46:01: because a lot of DJs they get lost it too much Too many songs so They don't Know what to Do.
00:46:06: It's like a scenario.
00:46:08: You follow that lane
00:46:12: There certain records Pop off anywhere in the world, you know Agree for president is one of those records.
00:46:21: You can play that at any hip-hop party and it will pop off.
00:46:24: Yep
00:46:25: So you know your key records?
00:46:28: How to drop those records keeps people engaged.
00:46:34: Like the one thing I tell people DJing is entertainment.
00:46:37: It Is!
00:46:39: You have put on a show like my brother.
00:46:41: What we'll get on there.
00:46:42: get on the mic be like catch.
00:46:45: no it's him you know.
00:46:48: and then at the same time, The same way he could talk on the mic is the same as his skills in the turntables.
00:46:53: And I come from that school so i'm the same way.
00:46:59: Yes sir
00:46:59: yes sir You know?
00:47:00: That was just how its
00:47:03: done.
00:47:03: Oh yeah man.
00:47:04: Well your guys been there for a while.
00:47:05: Your guys are legends For decades still here Still represented for the culture, even out there overseas.
00:47:13: We know who you guys are.
00:47:15: You've been putting to crazy work man Not only being DJs but also as a production duo.
00:47:23: So we're gonna talk about that.
00:47:24: I recently dropped a project with John Brown The Rapper.
00:47:29: It's pretty dope.
00:47:30: when i played some records on this show Can you tell me what was your process behind it?
00:47:35: How did you connect together?
00:47:39: Every once in a while I'll put out uh, a post.
00:47:43: i'm looking for people to work with.
00:47:45: you know and stuff like that.
00:47:46: we're selling beats.
00:47:47: And when we were looking For People To Work With so he replied to one of the posts... ...and We worked on The Business Part Of It Out ,I sent him A Beat.
00:47:56: He sent me back this song.
00:47:58: um..i listened to his song.... ..And I was Like.
00:48:03: You Know This Is Really Dope.
00:48:04: So I Contacted Him And I Said Listen Man!
00:48:07: I Like How You Sound Sound Dope On The Beat And I've never done this before, but i was like yo We should do more work together because I feel Like there's a connection in it.
00:48:17: and that conversation went from actually recording a few songs to Actually recording the project and putting the projects together.
00:48:25: It Was comfortable working with him.
00:48:27: he is A really dope gentleman.
00:48:29: He um...he uh...He takes it seriously.
00:48:34: Um..it was really great work on him.
00:48:37: we had some quality
00:48:40: stuff That
00:48:41: we came
00:48:42: out with.
00:48:43: Nice, nice.
00:48:43: Yeah What can you tell about that?
00:48:45: He will be like the connection to a new album they just dropped.
00:48:49: Oh man listen When Walt told me he said yo you know I'm an artist You know cause we don't walk without the kite and everything.
00:48:58: And John hit him back and walked to direct it with them.
00:49:02: Walt came up here say yo this is artists.
00:49:04: i think hes dope.
00:49:07: I want you to check them out.
00:49:08: and when Walt played the joint for me, I was like yo this is dope.
00:49:12: You know?
00:49:12: Like Walt initiated it whole situation And y'know It's an honor just working with him.
00:49:21: Yes sir He's a dope MC
00:49:23: But he's the type of person that you enjoy workin wit Because there's no stress There's straight creativity and it works.
00:49:32: Yeah, I like the vibes on there.
00:49:34: It's not only one vibe we can hear sometimes in albums it is mainly one mood.
00:49:39: When i heard of the projects its crazy.
00:49:41: you know different types of tracks.
00:49:43: You have some hard shit and soulful stuff Some tracks that make your think about life.
00:49:50: so Its dope man, definitely dope.
00:49:53: I recommend people to check this out.
00:49:55: I wasn't aware of John Brown The Wrapper before And now I am, i'm spinning the record.
00:49:59: so you know everybody has this and make sure to go.
00:50:01: check out that project.
00:50:03: Did you guys do any physical copies or anything like that?
00:50:07: Tell people where they can support them.
00:50:12: What?
00:50:13: Like tell other people about it... Hold on!
00:50:16: I think
00:50:16: we lost walk.
00:50:17: Walk?
00:50:18: No I'm here.
00:50:19: Oh easy, easy.
00:50:20: You could go to Fatbeats.
00:50:22: if you want physical vinyl copies Go to fatbeats.com.
00:50:27: They're selling physical records.
00:50:29: OK,
00:50:30: dope.
00:50:31: And that's very rare too for them to sell the vinyl around a time when the record comes out digitally and that's dope!
00:50:41: What you think about there like the return of vinyl?
00:50:45: It is crazy.
00:50:46: I went in store couple months ago.
00:50:49: it was all vinyls.
00:50:50: All i've seen at the store were like sixteen or seventeen years old kids.
00:50:54: That was crazy.
00:50:56: Yeah.
00:50:56: but here are things though like us who continuously buy vinyl, vinyl never left.
00:51:02: Vinyl just became a little smaller and in the smallest store.
00:51:08: but vinyl has always been here.
00:51:09: you know what I'm saying?
00:51:11: But vinyl is not... A record isn't going to go to platinum on vinyl alone.
00:51:16: You know what i'm
00:51:18: saying?!
00:51:18: But vinyl was still around for the hedgehog because music sounds warmer And it sound more.. Like In your face from vinyl like the digital stuff
00:51:31: is cool
00:51:32: but digital was made for convenience where the vinyl.
00:51:36: it's a warm sound and beautiful man.
00:51:38: so now vinyl
00:51:39: never left.
00:51:40: It just been here.
00:51:41: I saw before me in evil may records we used to work on record stores.
00:51:45: yeah, though.
00:51:46: So
00:51:47: the records We seem like uh The rise and fall of the record by directors or the vinyl always been there.
00:51:56: Yes sir its being here.
00:51:57: But we've seen like um i'm talking about like in the head of young people and all that, like ten years from there you know they weren't really buying vinyls.
00:52:06: And now it's becoming the popular thing again
00:52:10: because vinyl was more for an old hat kids.
00:52:16: these kids remember to read The Label.
00:52:20: we enjoyed reading The Labels.
00:52:22: I'm gonna tell you straight up.
00:52:24: i always look forward thank-yous and shout outs because I wanted to see who's affiliated with whom.
00:52:30: So when we started making records, it was important that our shout-out list... ...was fucking on point!
00:52:36: Because when we did Bracelet Impact, i put effort into my shout out lists like.. My Shout Out List Was Like Yo I'm gonna make the best shout out list ever.
00:52:48: You know what I'm saying?
00:52:49: I used to look at gangsta covers and like public enemy and all that stuff.
00:52:54: And I used to look at their shout-outs, you know what?
00:52:56: I'm gonna try make my shout out just like
00:52:58: theirs.".
00:53:02: Yeah it's yo!
00:53:04: Like always was a...I've read the credits.
00:53:06: yeah..like
00:53:08: i would buy whatever cassette I'd bought when an album came out.
00:53:13: I'll buy two copies of the album in a cassette then I will take the cassette open the cassette up put into my Walkman listen on The Way Home And while I'm sitting on the bus or train, I'm listening to songs reading the credits.
00:53:29: Mm-hmm.
00:53:31: and always because I was...I am a gear nerd like i want know what studio you recorded at
00:53:40: right?
00:53:41: Right!
00:53:41: What
00:53:42: samplers used?
00:53:44: who's your engineer?
00:53:45: yeah
00:53:46: im into that too.
00:53:47: Like where do we record it?
00:53:50: cause majority of studios are in New York.
00:53:53: So we were like, oh I want to go this studio and do that just be a part of
00:54:09: the vibe.
00:54:10: It makes you realize like the work behind music.
00:54:13: Now with streaming it's different, but when we actually see the credits... You can see all of the works behind it.
00:54:18: Like who made the artwork?
00:54:19: Who is the engineer and who was a producer!
00:54:22: And then there are the lyrics or even sometimes you have the full numbers in your studio.
00:54:26: And crazy thing about the stream
00:54:28: that sing now.. It does have information but majority
00:54:34: at this time is wrong.
00:54:38: I remember, always wanted to make a site and the site would be called credits.
00:54:44: You know what I'm saying?
00:54:45: But nobody turns in credits now which is bad.
00:54:48: Right yeah people don't turn credit in.
00:54:49: Cause
00:54:49: that's not even the reason why they didn't make this site cause no body turned in credits.
00:54:52: like because if that was the case i'd have been made the site.
00:54:55: you go on there see the credits for any album.
00:54:59: That's your dope idea!
00:55:00: You should do it.
00:55:00: Yeah but y'know what People don't... They don't make the credits No more.
