00:35:01: I
00:35:03: appreciate the love of my gym.
00:35:06: Real talk, real talk.
00:35:07: But I'm going to need some names, bro.
00:35:12: Yo, DJs, DJs, shout out to Funkflex.
00:35:16: Yes sir, yes sir.
00:35:24: DJ Clue?
00:35:25: For sure, for sure.
00:35:27: I grew up on DJ Clue mixtapes and everything, so you know, like, yeah, yeah.
00:35:33: Legendary man, and tell the people why especially those two guys.
00:35:41: So, for example, like... DJ Clue, when I was first introduced to hip hop way back when I was in Zimbabwe, you know, those are some of the... I had listened to other mixtapes before, but you know, like the Clue mixtapes, like they strike me the most, because you know, like, now my ear was more of the boom bap, you know, hardcore tap style, and the Clue mixtapes, you know, always made sure he brought that heat, like the mixtapes.
00:36:12: Then also for Funk Flex, you know, he was always bringing the heat, the hardcore, he liked Funk Flex mixed up, you know, they were like balanced, you know, he still dropped the heat from the streets, the clubs, boom bath.
00:36:27: you know and you hear the boom you know like it's getting live.
00:36:30: so yeah you know man shout out to Funk Flex DJ Clue.
00:36:33: Yes
00:36:33: sir yes sir man they influenced a lot of DJs and they actually you know kind of turned to the mixtape concept.
00:36:40: and turning to albums you know like DJ Clue did with the professional albums it was one of the first DJs to actually be able to also make a real studio album and you could see that in your stalls.
00:36:53: you know worldwide you see the DJ Clue name say damn bro like you know who.
00:36:58: yeah
00:36:59: I remember who bit Lee the the the the the professional volume one and two.
00:37:04: definitely
00:37:05: yeah man.
00:37:06: and I have another mixtape question for you.
00:37:09: I think I know the answer to from what you just say to me.
00:37:12: but
00:37:12: do you miss the mixtape format?
00:37:16: yeah definitely man.
00:37:18: man I used to love mixtapes.
00:37:19: I still do You know, sometimes I still revisit like old mixtapes, you know, from the ACAV Summit forgotten, but yeah, definitely.
00:37:28: I love mixtapes, you know, it's a different breeze, different style, you know, like it brings a variety to the listeners.
00:37:35: So I definitely miss, you know, the mixtapes.
00:37:38: definitely, you know, needs to be back in the games too.
00:37:42: Yeah, and maybe one of those days.
00:37:45: You're probably going to drop something on your own because you've been rapping for a while and people need to hear also the unreleased stuff of the old verses that you have in the vault somewhere.
00:37:57: Are you planning on doing that?
00:38:00: Yeah, I was actually speaking to one of my producers the other week because I'll be just playing some punch of old music.
00:38:09: It's like, oh, I like this.
00:38:11: I like this.
00:38:11: This is going to be in the album.
00:38:14: it's not gonna be an album because it doesn't really you know match the format.
00:38:19: so you know maybe the next album is like oh why can't you just you know group all those and release tracks you know and make another album and just release it as you know?
00:38:31: you know the unreleased and released music.
00:38:35: yeah that's something i'm definitely looking forward to do as well.
00:38:39: Yeah because I know you're working on your solo album.
00:38:42: so you know back in the day that's what people used to do.
00:38:44: They used to drop a mixtape before the album.
00:38:46: so maybe we can expect that from you before you drop your solo project.
00:38:53: I'm not sure maybe after this one because you know like it's a fresh idea that came.
00:38:58: so you know I didn't actually thought of it but actually it's actually sound like a good idea because you know all the tracks are finished.
00:39:06: So, you know, it might be good energy, you know, just to, you know, get the fans going while they're waiting for the album.
00:39:11: So yeah, cool idea.
00:39:13: You know, definitely, you know, think about it.
00:39:16: Yeah, man, you know, to bring back those mixtape vibes.
00:39:19: You know, I think it's coming back, man, especially now in this crazy era that we live in with everything is digital.
00:39:26: Everything is like kind of like fast food music, you know what I mean?
00:39:30: So bring back that mixtape spirit can be really dope for the culture and for your fans, too.
00:39:36: you know the fans also enjoy to get some unreleased stuff from back in the days you know to show the the path that you've been taking you know for a while and show the evolution of your music too.
00:39:49: yeah definitely because um i think you know like a few months ago like um uh rockness monster released one of these tracks like he made like when he started music you know just just for the fans and you know the fans actually appreciate it because they could understand where he started and you know where he at now.
00:40:08: you know because it's definitely you know progressive nature.
00:40:12: so you know for some of the new fans they'll be curious.
00:40:15: you know you know your whole journey.
00:40:17: so you know it's definitely a good look to do that.
00:40:19: yeah for sure man and you as a MC and also a hip-hop fan what do you expect?
00:40:26: you know when you click play on a mixtape like to you what makes a dope tape.
00:40:33: so for a dope tape I think it has to be like.
00:40:40: obviously it has to be.
00:40:41: you know musically sound musically dope is the variety of different MCs which I like plus the reason why I appreciate mixtapes so much was I got introduced to many other MCs I never knew about.
00:41:00: so you know it's definitely a good way you know to know what's going on elsewhere.
00:41:06: because that's how I because my favorite MCs of all time is Karris one and way back the first time I actually heard him was in a funk max deflex mixtape so I didn't even know his name.
00:41:21: I was like damn this guy is spitting hard.
00:41:23: who the hell is this guy.
00:41:24: so you know.
00:41:25: it prompted me to you know search for more of his music.
00:41:28: so the thing I like the most is you know you know getting reduced to other music you know you never knew before.
00:41:35: so that's definitely the major reason.
00:41:38: It's a lot of hodges like that that we discovered through mixtapes.
00:41:43: Some name came from my mind like Ransom, Pat Pooze, Lloyd Banks.
00:41:52: Yeah, definitely.
00:41:54: It's a good way to catch up with what's going on elsewhere.
00:41:58: Plus, it's just a different format.
00:42:02: you hear a track you know shout outs.
00:42:04: you know they can play back the track.
00:42:06: you know it's just refreshing sound because you know it's a different format to.
00:42:09: you know the regular albums.
00:42:11: so you know it's.
00:42:12: um yeah it's it's entertaining.
00:42:15: you know hip hop hip hop dj scratches and everything.
00:42:18: so yeah i appreciate the mixtape for real.
00:42:20: Yeah, that's the right word, man.
00:42:22: Entertaining.
00:42:23: It's like, you know, when Fifty saying Young Buck and the G-Unit was knocking down the R&B instrumentals or mainstream instrumentals and doing their own thing with it, you know what I'm saying?
00:42:34: Their own thing.
00:42:36: Yeah, definitely.
00:42:36: That was dope.
00:42:37: That was dope.
00:42:38: And, you know, because with mixtape, you kind of don't know what to expect.
00:42:44: So, you know, so that actually makes it dope.
00:42:47: Yes, sir.
00:42:47: Yes, sir.
00:42:48: and you know we talked about you having a solo project coming out soon and I know you.
00:42:54: you dropped that video.
00:42:55: you know with MOP rusty jokes you also have that song with a. you know this dig from dead press.
00:43:01: so tell the people man what's coming next.
00:43:04: because I know you're working on some high chill right now.
00:43:10: so I just need to drop one more single and a video before the album drops.
00:43:17: but at the moment i'm not even sure what single is gonna drop next because you know i'm still debating on a few tracks.
00:43:24: i don't want to say all the names and the features you know because it might spoil the surprise especially for the album.
00:43:32: but i think maybe in a couple of weeks you know i would have decided what's coming up next.
00:43:38: but the album is definitely dropping.
00:43:40: it's ninety nine point nine percent done nice it's called dedicated to self.
00:43:48: I think it's gonna have like thirteen tracks you know and a few skits in there you know just to take it back to you know to the old school.
00:43:55: so I got some dope skits coming up dope producers dope emcees yeah.
00:44:02: so I just you know everyone to be excited and I got two more projects dropping after that as well.
00:44:09: okay nice man that's good that you're bringing back the skits and the interludes man because we miss that too.
00:44:15: you know it's like the mixtape.
00:44:16: we miss that.
00:44:18: you know like some funny funny skits I remember like hearing some almost like Paul no shit from Snoop Dogg and Dr.
00:44:24: Dre back in the days.
00:44:26: You know, you play the album, your parents in the same room, then you hear this kid's like, oh shit.
00:44:31: Yeah, definitely, definitely.
00:44:33: Quickly play skip if it's a CD or if it's a tape, you know, like fast forward and stuff.
00:44:39: Yeah, definitely.
00:44:40: Yeah, but I definitely got some dope skits interludes coming up.
00:44:44: So yeah, you know, everyone should look out to that.
00:44:47: Nice, nice.
00:44:47: So we can't wait, man, to hear that full project because I know you bring the heat, you know, people probably seeing the video that you did with Rusty Jokes and MOP.
00:44:57: That's the real hip-hop spirit right there, my guy.
00:45:00: And that's what people need right now, you know?
00:45:04: Yeah, that's why I respect the little... OG is coming back you know dropping that boom back.
00:45:10: you know taking it back because you know nowadays a lot of you know microwave music.
00:45:15: so you know I appreciate all the OGs coming back bringing that lyricism back.
00:45:20: so you know keeps everyone on their toes.
00:45:23: so you know that's that's the direction you need to be going.
00:45:26: yeah man you know twenty twenty five has been a super dope year for hip-hop.
00:45:30: when you think about it you know we've seen the return of so many guys.
00:45:34: you know dropping albums.
00:45:36: You know, like in France, we had a French rap group called Luzine.
00:45:40: They did a joint album with Onyx.
00:45:43: We had the Ice Cube album with the Eminem album, LL Cool J. You know, so many, I forget people.
00:45:49: So many.
00:45:50: Goat spades, Rayquan.
00:45:52: Yeah.
00:45:53: It was definitely crazy.
00:45:55: Yup, yup.
00:45:55: It's dope, man.
00:45:57: And do you think like, like people kind of miss the.
00:46:01: You know the good way to make an album because when I listen to new stuff sometimes I'm like this just maybe a compilation of the best song, but it's not built like an album.
00:46:12: You know like.
00:46:13: I think an album should tell a story kind of like a movie.
00:46:17: Yeah Yeah, the person I can use this reference was like master ace Albums, you know, like you can tell.
00:46:26: it's like, you know properly formulated even Dre like the chronic Snoop Dogg's album, it's a proper formulated idea that you can tell some people is just sit down and they got a theme for the whole album so you can actually see what's going on.
00:46:47: Some of the albums, it's just like a bunch of tracks put together, it's not cohesive.
00:46:53: The album needs to be cohesive, a theme to it makes it a dope album.
00:46:59: For sure.
00:47:00: And you, how would you define the album that's coming soon?
00:47:04: If you had three words to define the album, what could you say?
00:47:11: I think the three words I'll take it from from the actual title dedicated to self.
00:47:18: you know just basically telling my story my struggles.
00:47:24: you know the general atmosphere for the whole world.
00:47:28: you know just dropping some knowledge and you know we got different.
00:47:31: we got boom bap as well you know but yeah it's definitely something to look up to.
00:47:36: Yes, sir.
00:47:36: Yes, sir.
00:47:37: We can't wait me to hear that for sure.
00:47:39: And let's go back in time.
00:47:41: Like, what made you want to be an MC and start taking it seriously?
00:47:48: So, um, way back, um, you know, like, um, way back, like, because I grew up in Zubabwe growing up, you know, so, um, so even way back, um, the first, the way we got introduced to Hippo was, you know, like, We didn't have any dedicated radio channels to just listen to hip-hop.
00:48:15: We only maybe like one radio DJ who used to play a couple of tracks.
00:48:19: And even TV we hardly, unless you had like cable to tap into the US station.
00:48:27: So, you know, the first, most of the MCs we knew about is through the magazine, XXL, the Source, Water Magazine.
00:48:36: And you know in the magazines everyone you know just looks cool and dope.
00:48:40: you know like it was like.
00:48:42: ah I need to be like.
00:48:43: you know these guys.
00:48:46: so you know like we started writing our own tracks spitting.
00:48:49: but initially you know it was like just.
00:48:51: you know just fun and games just recording music and just put it out.
00:48:58: But you know, as you grow up, then you realize, oh, I've spent so many hours just putting out the music for free and everything.
00:49:06: You know, it gets to a time where you realize, like, this is an actual business.
00:49:11: So I need to take it seriously, you know, make sure everything is copyrighted.
00:49:17: Yeah, so years back, then I started making music and working on this album and taking it everything seriously.
00:49:28: So at the moment, this will be my first project, like putting out proper professionally.
00:49:37: So yeah, I'm excited to see how that's going to go as far as the sales, people accepting it and everything.
00:49:45: So I think at the moment with the three singles I've dropped, it's gaining the right traction and all the business is sorted.
00:49:54: So even myself, I'm excited to see how that's going to go.
00:49:57: that's dope man and how does that make you feel?
00:49:59: you know as an artist but also as a man when you think think about the past and now to realize that you work with some of hip hop biggest legends you know i'm saying like how does that make you feel?
00:50:15: ah there's a lot of excitement.
00:50:18: you know that comes in because like most of the mcs have worked with.
00:50:23: you know like kind of like grew up listening to these guys.
00:50:26: you know you like Never at any point did.
00:50:29: I think.
00:50:29: you know like it's just a matter of time I'll be working with these guys like you just see them on TV.
00:50:34: and you know I never thought in the wildest dream that you know one of these days I'll be working with them.
00:50:39: so even just from a personal level it's like a dream come true.
00:50:46: you know there's some part of you is like I kind of made it.
00:50:49: you know I'm on the same track with these legends but you know past that you still also need your Your music, you know, to be successful.
00:51:00: So as far as working with these guys, it's also good because, you know, it keeps you on the tip of toes as far as the writing, the lyricism.
00:51:08: So as far as much as I'm excited to working with them, I also appreciate, you know, that they'll make you push your boundaries, you know.
00:51:18: So you're at par with them as far as the lyricism, the delivery of the track, everything.
00:51:23: So it's kind of mixed advantages to this, but generally excited to be working with these guys.
00:51:32: Yes, sir.
00:51:34: I can hear that in your voice, the seed in your eyes, man, that you're excited and you have love, you know, for the culture.
00:51:40: And that you, you know, like you say, man, you made your dreams come true by working with those guys.
00:51:46: And that's so dope to see that, you know, I think it's one thing that you need to have.
00:51:50: It's the passion, the dedication.
00:51:52: That's the one thing that's going to keep you on track.
00:51:56: Yeah, because even back home, you know, like, Countless number of people would be like, send me messages.
00:52:03: Oh man, don't stop while you're doing it on the right track.
00:52:06: Who knew you're gonna be away from these guys?
00:52:09: Even some of these guys, they're not even rappers, but you know, they just appreciate, you know, the dedication, the direction that I've taken.
00:52:17: So that also motivates me, you know.
00:52:19: So yeah, we gotta keep it going on.
00:52:23: And those people that are not rappers or not in the music industry, They are the ones that are going to make your music live forever.
00:52:31: That's a fact.
00:52:33: We need the fans, we need the people that listen to the music.
00:52:37: Not only the ones that does music, but the people that just enjoy it, have a good time with the music, you know what I mean?
00:52:44: Share it with their friends, you know?
00:52:47: Yeah, definitely.
00:52:48: It's all about the fans.
00:52:51: If the fans appreciate it, they're going to share it with their fans, their friends.
00:52:55: That's the way you gotta go.
00:52:58: For my part, I just need to make sure that I make the music that are able to motivate someone and make them feel excited enough to be able to share with their friends and family.
00:53:12: That's
00:53:14: one thing that I like about you is that you know how to how to make the right tracks the most impactful tracks.
00:53:21: you know how to do the right visuals.
00:53:23: you know how to pick the right beats and you also know you know when to put out a song.
00:53:29: you know like I like the strategy that you're doing.
00:53:32: you know you're working on something then you wait a little bit then you hit them back.
00:53:36: you know with something even better than before and you know it keeps getting better every time.
00:53:41: so you know.
00:53:41: much respect to you for that bro.
00:53:44: yeah thank you thank you appreciate that just work in progress.
00:53:48: So, you know, I'm just trying to learn with every release, I'm just trying to learn what I could have done better, you know, what could be improved, you know, what went right, you know, so, you know, still work in progress.
00:53:59: Still trying to build, elevate and learn.
00:54:01: Yes,
00:54:01: sir.
00:54:01: And can we expect like physical copies of the new album, like vinyl CDs, cassettes?
00:54:08: Yeah, definitely.
00:54:09: That's one of the main things that's on.
00:54:11: the plan is to make sure I have vinyl CDs and tapes as well.
00:54:17: I think for the tapes it's gonna be limited number of tapes but definitely I'll have vinyl CDs going on plus you know for the real fans because even without the album being done I've had so many requests that bro are you gonna have vinyl?
00:54:35: because you know I'm gonna make sure I'm gonna buy the vinyl plus you know it keeps fans excited.
00:54:42: if you know they have the music they love with and vinyl CDs You know, so yeah, definitely it's gonna happen.
00:54:50: dope dope.
00:54:51: Yeah, I hope you're gonna, you know, autograph the thing and you know that that makes people go crazy when they have that that collector.
00:54:57: Oh, yeah
00:54:59: Best hundred copies autograph.
00:55:01: Yeah, man.
00:55:02: That's how you gotta do, you know That's how you you create a special link with your with your fans, you know
00:55:07: with your fans.
00:55:07: Yeah, definitely.
00:55:08: Yeah, man.
00:55:10: And right now, you know when you think about about the best and the things that you've done What do you think has been the biggest challenge in your
00:55:17: career?
00:55:20: The biggest challenge?
00:55:23: I think sometimes it's self-doubt.
00:55:25: You know, there's times where you kind of know that you're working on something big, you're going to do, but sometimes you sit back and you start to be thinking like, am I really going to pull this off?
00:55:39: sometimes it's a self-doubt but then if you look back at what you've already done is like I have already done this.
00:55:45: so you know I gotta keep in point.
00:55:48: yeah.
00:55:48: so for me I think it's sometimes when you have that little self-doubt but you know you gotta keep consistent, persistent until it happens and never give up.
00:55:57: I guess that's why I made that track with Stigman and Wayne Kidd and B-Mighty always believing in yourself and keep it moving.
00:56:05: You're keeping positive vibes, positive energy in the air man.
00:56:11: Do you have like a...
00:56:13: That's why I like the code from Immortal Technique when you say pessimism is not a philosophy, it's just an emotion.
00:56:23: So you know, when you have that in your head, you know, you just gotta keep on going, just an emotion.
00:56:28: By the time you know, after a few hours it might be gone, so you know, gotta stay positive.
00:56:33: Yep, for sure man.
00:56:35: Do you have any advice for the young upcoming MCs that are listening to this interview right now?
00:56:43: I think for me, the biggest advice I can give is self-belief, persistence and working hard.
00:56:53: It always pays off.
00:56:55: It might take a lot of time.
00:56:58: Sometimes you might end up doubting yourself thinking it might not work.
00:57:02: but you know eventually it worked because as many times since I started I kind of stopped in between they started again.
00:57:10: but then the moment I started being persistent you know like everything started working out.
00:57:15: so sometimes it might just be a middle of time.
00:57:18: but you know you gotta stay positive and keep keep pushing.
00:57:22: then it always works out.
00:57:24: Yep
00:57:24: real talk man real talk.
00:57:26: So all the young ones out there are listening, you know, make sure you take those words of advice from Rhyme Assassin, you know, one of the UK's nicest MCs, man, real shit.
