00:37:22: it was never a plan of mine to be like I. I want DJs to be big.

00:37:27: you know I'm saying until I store I saw it getting serious.

00:37:30: when I seen it getting serious that's when I had to learn the music business and take it seriously and then like put my mind to things.

00:37:37: you know I'm saying cuz I never like.

00:37:39: I said I never thought it would be what it

00:37:42: yeah man and also you know the influence was not only in the US but you guys took it international.

00:37:49: I remember me when I started doing mixtape, I was like maybe twelve or thirteen years old.

00:37:55: And I was, you know, the Fleet DJ Roaster, man.

00:37:57: And I said, you guys from Germany, from France, from the UK.

00:38:01: You know, it's crazy.

00:38:04: Yeah, I did not know you was

00:38:08: I started mixtapes, I think I was thirteen years old, something like that.

00:38:14: I'm thirty one now, so you know.

00:38:22: Like I said, when it started getting big and people started to know what it is, then I really had to take it seriously and try to make it into something.

00:38:32: Because like I said, that wasn't my main focus on some real.

00:38:38: What made you want to reach out to the international DJs?

00:38:42: Did you have a vision for that?

00:38:44: Take the Fleet DJ thing to European markets, Asian markets, all that?

00:38:51: At the time, when we first started getting international, we had a lot at U.S.

00:38:56: DJs.

00:38:56: So it was to the point of, how can we expand to other countries?

00:39:02: You know what I'm saying?

00:39:02: And the other countries, started noticing and knowing fleet.

00:39:07: So we was like, man, we need to expand this thing worldwide.

00:39:11: You know what I'm saying?

00:39:11: Because we all we all come together for the same thing, the purpose of music.

00:39:16: Even though it's a family situation, we're coming together for music at the end of the day.

00:39:21: So at the end of the day, this is what we had to do.

00:39:24: And, you know, it just made sense to expand to these other countries because you're here for a purpose.

00:39:30: And if we can help each other out, no matter where we are, that was the goal.

00:39:34: Mm-hmm and tell the people man because you know fleet DJ is not only a DJ coalition It's more than that.

00:39:41: You know, you guys actually have producers on board.

00:39:43: You have artists on the box.

00:39:45: tell the people man about all the things that you guys are doing

00:39:48: The fleet DJs.

00:39:49: we got photographer.

00:39:50: We got models.

00:39:51: We got producers.

00:39:52: We got host.

00:39:54: It's a whole.

00:39:54: we got the fleet teams.

00:39:55: We got a nonprofit organization called fleet Inc.

00:39:59: We got the worldwide alpha communications network.

00:40:02: We got fleet radio network Which is the biggest radio network on the net with over ninety five stations worldwide.

00:40:08: Um, we got two mobile apps.

00:40:10: We got five websites.

00:40:12: We just did the fleet DJs dot com over.

00:40:15: So it's a brand new site up now.

00:40:17: Um, it's a lot going on here.

00:40:19: You know, we do the fleet conference every year.

00:40:21: Just the fifteenth year going down in Jacksonville, Florida next year, two thousand, two thousand twenty six, July, sixteenth through the twentieth.

00:40:29: Um, shoot.

00:40:30: We have a lot going on in the fleet right now.

00:40:33: You know what I'm saying?

00:40:33: We have a record label called Fleet Entertainment.

00:40:37: We dropped a couple single moves and stuff like that.

00:40:40: We got a couple EPs up on streaming sites and stuff.

00:40:43: We got a new single coming out now with Kujo and Cocaine from the West Coast and BigGip, which I'll produce or whatever.

00:40:52: So that's coming real soon or whatever.

00:40:54: I dropped a preview on the social media not too long ago.

00:40:59: We just keeping it going, man.

00:41:00: We just working, you know?

00:41:01: Trying to fill our duties and help each other out on our goals, you know?

00:41:57: I think that's because of that mentality that you are able to do all the things that you do with the Fleet DJs you know and years after you know more than twenty years after you have the respect of you know everybody like.

00:42:10: it's not a lot of people that have bad things to say about the Fleet DJs you know because of the wonderful things that you guys been doing.

00:42:17: Yeah man like I like the image of you know helping people.

00:42:20: Everything ain't about money, you know, sometimes you gotta get paid, you know what I'm saying?

00:42:24: That's just what it is, because it's a music business.

00:42:26: But, you know, if you can go the extra mile to help people out and make people win, that makes it greater.

00:42:32: Whatever, for you and stuff like that.

00:42:34: You achieve a lot of different things.

00:42:35: People look at your work ethic and people look at what you're doing.

00:42:39: It brings more to the table and stuff, whatever.

00:42:41: So, I'm always been that type of person.

00:42:44: yeah man if you have the vision and you feel it in your heart that you have to do something even if it's not about money just just feel it.

00:42:52: you have to do it.

00:42:55: you know me like we're starting the fleet dj academy or whatever which is gonna help kids even though we had the fleet teams already that we mentored.

00:43:10: it's a lot of people especially kids that need that guidance or they want to get into something but they're not sure what they want to get into wherever's music or whatever.

00:43:19: but we here to guide you and help you out with different things like that.

00:43:21: so that's one thing people could be looking out for because it's coming real soon.

00:44:16: You were talking about the Fleet DJ Conference, and I have a question for you, man.

00:44:21: Like we said, you have a huge influence overseas, and when can we expect a Fleet DJ Conference out there?

00:44:27: France or Germany or whatever.

00:44:31: That's something we're working on, you know what I'm saying?

00:44:35: It's been a thought in our mind or whatever.

00:44:37: We just haven't achieved that part, you know what I'm saying?

00:44:42: That's something that we're working on and stuff and eventually it will come.

00:44:46: because the one thing about the fleet conference, it never stays in a city.

00:44:51: It goes everywhere, you know what I'm saying?

00:44:53: So this year it was in Atlanta, Georgia, next year it's in Jacksonville, Florida.

00:44:58: It moves around.

00:44:59: so it ain't one of those conferences that just stays in one spot.

00:45:03: Eventually it will be overseas.

00:45:05: You know, I had a couple people talking to me about Puerto Rico or even doing something on a cruise and different things like that.

00:45:12: So it's going to get to these spots.

00:45:17: That's a great idea on the cruise.

00:45:18: I've seen it like jazz always doing that, hip hop always doing that.

00:45:23: So it's going to get to that point eventually.

00:45:25: You know what I'm saying?

00:45:26: So we're fifteen years in coming up.

00:45:29: anything is possible to the following years, you know?

00:45:34: And you guys, you know, been doing a lot of things, you know, different things.

00:45:38: Like we say, you know, rocking the DJ Coalition produces all that, you know, like the DJ Academy.

00:45:43: But what are you going to do next?

00:45:45: Like in the next five years, like, what are you working on?

00:45:48: Because I know you're working hard, bro.

00:45:53: We got fleet films.

00:45:54: So we're going to start going on small films and stuff.

00:45:58: Whether they documentaries and besides fleet stuff or whatever.

00:46:02: So we do have one in the works that's going to be on strictly hip hop or whatever.

00:46:07: I could give a little insight on that.

00:46:11: We got a bunch of legendary people.

00:46:13: They're going to be doing a lot of different things, talking about hip hop and the basics and different things like that.

00:46:19: It's going to be more in depth documentary.

00:46:22: So we're going to be doing little things like that and put stuff like that together and stuff.

00:46:28: The producer stuff, we're gonna have albums coming out as far as all the producers together working on the album and stuff.

00:46:38: My list is so long.

00:46:39: I left that out wanting to achieve, you know?

00:46:43: But me, I try to take one thing at a time at least to get it started and then I may go to something else or whatever.

00:46:49: But that's two things that I know that we have in mind that I can't talk about.

00:46:59: Sometimes you know it's better not to talk about because you know if you talk about it too much it might never happen.

00:47:04: Yeah there you go.

00:47:05: So you know like I'm a real close person.

00:47:08: so when it when it drops that's when people say you know I don't do too much talking on social media.

00:47:15: I barely do interviews.

00:47:18: I had to have you on there.

00:47:19: man you know like The story of the Fleet DJ is interesting and you have a special, you know, entrepreneurial mentality, like you're always bringing new ideas on board, creating new concepts.

00:47:32: It's something that I respect a lot because it's not everybody that have that mentality, that have that vision, you know?

00:47:39: Yeah, thank you, thank you.

00:47:40: Like, we have two magazines, we have Sturdy Fisher Magazine and we have The Fleet Mag, which, you know, we're putting a lot of energy into as well.

00:47:50: or whatever.

00:47:50: like those magazines are just traditional magazines doing interviews and you know stories and you know kids stuff and it's just you know they're well-rounded.

00:48:01: so we got a lot going on with those two magazines and of course we got the flea TV as well.

00:48:07: so it's a lot.

00:48:08: you know.

00:48:08: it's a lot of moving parts here and just keeping everything consistent and rolling is what we're trying to do.

00:48:15: And who influenced you in your life?

00:48:17: like to come up with those entrepreneur mindset, you know, like, is it like Master P, Jay-Z, those guys, you know?

00:48:25: I'm Terry The Truth.

00:48:27: Nah, my father, my father was in the music business, you know what I'm saying?

00:48:30: He was one of the head guys in the Zoo Nation.

00:48:33: Okay.

00:48:34: So, you know what I'm saying?

00:48:35: Like, my family is who I follow, you know what I'm saying?

00:48:39: I like, you know, a lot of those guys, Master P, fifty Cent was one of them guys I followed a lot, you know, just, you know, regular people like anybody else, but... My family.

00:48:48: I have a lot of influential people in the music business in my family and stuff like Whitney Houston was in my family.

00:48:54: It was years apart of my family my cousin and stuff, but you know, I have a lot of people that was in my family That is in the business.

00:49:03: So Looking at these people do what they do and stuff like that, but my father You know, he worked for record labels and, you know, he did like, you know, different things in the business.

00:49:14: Of course, I told you he's one of the head guys in the zoo nation.

00:49:18: My brother as well, you know what I'm saying?

00:49:20: So I look at them as my people.

00:49:24: that inspired me into what I do today, because I sat there and I looked at them as a young kid doing what they do, you know what I'm saying?

00:49:32: Like I seen rappers do what they do, but I didn't really know what they did.

00:49:37: I just seen them rap but my family I saw what they did because I was sitting right there and stuff and they was actually doing it and they was around rappers or whoever act is and whatever you know.

00:49:48: they was around these people.

00:49:50: so um my inspiration was definitely from them.

00:49:54: live and you know you got your like.

00:49:55: I said you got your fifty cents you got your masterpiece your jay-z's your bird man.

00:50:00: looking now looking at what's out there now and stuff like that.

00:50:04: Them people were very influential into trying to not say beat them, but trying to get your stuff on the level of that.

00:50:12: You know what I'm saying?

00:50:15: But at a young age, my father and my brother was definitely those people.

00:50:20: Shout out to everybody in your family that made sure that they passed the torch and gave you the right mindset.

00:50:25: That's so important right there.

00:50:27: Yeah, like you know like people take you know stuff for granted, but I didn't.

00:50:32: I never knew I was gonna be in the music business.

00:50:34: You know I'm saying I was something I was just trying know whatever like even when I did my first very first mix say I did it with one of my friends.

00:50:42: It was called soul originals.

00:50:45: That was the.

00:50:45: that was our little mixtape group,

00:50:47: but

00:50:48: We was just.

00:50:49: all we was doing was putting songs on a cassette tape.

00:50:53: It wasn't Like.

00:50:54: it was like when we was doing the mixtapes, you know what I'm saying?

00:50:57: But it was, that was my start for it that

00:50:59: way.

00:51:00: We all got to start somewhere, bro.

00:51:01: Yeah.

00:51:02: Yeah.

00:51:02: We was, we called it our little mixtape cause we was, we was putting all our songs that we like on consent tapes and stuff.

00:51:08: So, you know, that was, and that was, I guess me trying to do something that I saw my brother then do, you know what I'm saying?

00:51:17: Or whoever was out at the time doing mixtapes and stuff.

00:51:20: So, you know.

00:51:24: It's the foundation man and who could have imagined that?

00:51:27: you know starting with a little cassette tape You're gonna create the flea DJ's and should go global bro,

00:51:33: because it was times where The flea DJ's might not have been here.

00:51:38: I know I sat in this um.

00:51:40: I had a meeting where Eric Knicks who at the time was um the um A&R violator and I came in there as a producer.

00:51:50: Like, you know, he was like, I want these beats.

00:51:53: And he picked like a whole slew of them.

00:51:55: Guess what?

00:51:56: I didn't come back.

00:52:00: And I was supposed to be in that, that first Violet album.

00:52:03: I never came back or whatever.

00:52:05: I don't know if I was nervous or whatever the case may be.

00:52:09: Just know I didn't come back.

00:52:10: But if I took that route, Fleet DJ wouldn't have been

00:52:14: in.

00:52:15: You know, it's the details man sometimes a little things man, you know.

00:52:20: So so you know things.

00:52:22: certain things happen for a reason.

00:52:23: I might have been on that violator album, you know for certain producers Produces they have their times and then they fade away.

00:52:31: They fade away at this point in time when I'm at my life I can get to basically any artist.

00:52:36: so it's it kind of worked out for you know

00:52:43: You did the work man!

00:52:44: I wouldn't have met you!

00:52:48: Connecting the dots from France to the US, that's how we do it.

00:52:53: So, things happen for a reason, you take certain paths and that's just what it is.

00:52:59: Do you have any advice for the young entrepreneurs, DJs out there that are maybe listening to this show right now?

00:53:09: Keep focus.

00:53:10: Focus on what you're doing.

00:53:11: Research.

00:53:12: Google is free.

00:53:13: So research what you're doing.

00:53:15: Ask questions.

00:53:16: Ain't nothing wrong with asking questions if you know people or anybody that does what you're trying to do.

00:53:22: Ask questions because there ain't nothing wrong with that.

00:53:24: And research.

00:53:25: You know what I'm saying?

00:53:26: And just do your best on what you're trying to do.

00:53:29: Yep.

00:53:30: Do your best because nobody can tell you how to work.

00:53:35: And also about that research thing, you know, they need to do that.

00:53:38: Some people, they don't, they don't check the history, you know, they don't do the research.

00:53:52: Like when I was, you know, trying to figure out where all the back in the day, I'm trying to figure out where all these DJs had their mix tapes at.

00:53:59: Every Friday, I used to take a couple of hours out and research where they had the mixtapes on and what a platform they was on.

00:54:07: So eventually I was able to compile a big old email list and was able to get on those platforms.

00:54:13: So it took research.

00:54:15: If I didn't do the research, then none of those flea tastes would be there.

00:54:19: All that stuff, you know.

00:54:21: It takes time.

00:54:22: You know, time, sometimes you got to sit back and just think about what you're doing instead of reacting.

00:54:27: Yeah, but I think you got to be us or two, man, at the same time.

00:54:31: Yeah, you do.

00:54:32: Cause you know some people, they might be great at doing music, but they don't have that us for them.

00:54:38: So you won't go anywhere.

00:55:03: Yeah, no doubt like I just signed the sink deal So I'm starting to focus on more doing TV stuff because I used to do TV stuff back in the day with Fox Sports or whatever And I also used to do Stephen A Smith theme songs to my cousin used to do his theme songs when he was on ESPN radio.

00:55:18: So I used to record those things make the beats and then here go straight to the studio straight to the we'll do recording my crib go straight to the show And Steven A. Smith is playing Sting songs and stuff.

00:55:28: So, you know what I'm saying?

00:55:30: Back in the day.

00:55:30: So it was a lot that I have done or whatever.

00:55:34: So that people may not know about, but you had to read my bio.

00:55:38: Sometimes you go back to the things that made you who you are at the beginning.

00:55:43: You know, like you just told me about the situation and you're going to go back to sync.
